    5 Best Surf Tips

The beach, the ocean and the waves are the heart of our brand. So it’s no surprise that our resorts provide an array of watersports for guests to enjoy. From stand-up paddleboard yoga to catamaran sails, windsurfing and snorkel adventures, boogie boards and canoe rides, we’ve got it all. But the most popular across our destinations - Hawaii, Fiji, Thailand and Mauritius - is always surfing.

Today we’re sharing 5 of our favorite surf tips from our partners at Faith Surf School. The Moniz family - the masterminds behind Faith Surf School  - are not only Hawaii surfing royalty, but also common participants of the Surfers In Residence program at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort.

Catch the live video here, or read the list of surf tips below. It's never too early to start planning for your next beach vacation.

    1. Don’t be afraid or make an excuse. Book yourself a surf lesson. There’s no such thing as being too old or not athletic enough. While you’re visiting Hawaii, a surf lesson is a must-do. You won’t regret it.

    2. Surfing requires a different set of muscles. Even those in great shape can find it physically challenging to paddle back and forth. If you’re feeling motivated, practice push ups and burpees in preparation.

    3. Hand positioning is key! Our natural inclination is to put our hands by our chest when we are trying to stand up on the board. Don’t do that. Make a point to keep your hands by your waist. It’ll be a lot easier to get up (and you won’t feel like you’re tipping forward)

    4. Look forward! If you look to the right, you’ll fall to the right.

    5. Practice cross-stepping in a long mirror with tape on the floor. This fancy footwork will help you achieve the infamous toes on the nose move..

Whether you’re an experienced surfer or a total newbie, we encourage you to take a surf lesson on your next vacation! You might just have the time of your life.

    Your next vacation awaits.
