Save The Coral Reefs - World Oceans Day

Outrigger's ZONE

The sea is part of our DNA, and its stewardship is a responsibility we take seriously. Our OZONE (Outrigger’s ZONE) conservation initiative was launched in 2014 to provide enriching experiences which protect our oceans and coral reef from harm and help them to thrive for generations to come.

Why Coral Reefs?

60% of the world’s coral reefs are under immediate threat. And you can help... get in the "zone"! Coral Reefs are a vital ecosystem to our oceans and the whole planet.

Living Coral

The 2019 PANTONE Color of the Year is called "Living Coral". Who knew that being environmentally conscious was so on-trend?

Save The Coral Reefs

In partnership with governments, private industries and conservation organizations – the OZONE initiative preserves, protects and plants coral reefs through hands-on educational opportunities, beach clean-ups and other activities that increase awareness. Together, Outrigger guests and employees have successfully planted, monitored and protected more than 100 football fields’ worth of coral since the 2014 program launch.

Prevent Coral Bleaching

Some chemicals in common sunscreen brands can be harmful to coral reefs and marine environments. Fortunately, there are mineral sunscreens that reflect the sun’s rays using ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. We've been making these types of “reef-safe” sunscreens available to our resort guests since 2014.

Coral Fact #3

Coral reefs are less than 1% of the ocean floor, yet support 25% of marine life on the planet.

Coral Fact #4

Coral Reefs provide an estimated 30 billion USD economic value each year by providing food, protection of shorelines, increased tourism and even medicines.
