After moving to the US in the late seventies, Bolioli studied at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Unable to balance his art and surfing passion, he moved to Oahu, where he first made a living painting surfboards, including for world champions Shaun Tomson, Martin Potter and Sunny Garcia. He soon became an art director for local brands while also designing for Quiksilver, Gotcha and Billabong.
He also designed local concert posters for Miles Davis, Aerosmith, UB40 and created animations for the music channel VH1.
In 92 he became the ABSOLUT HAWAII artist, in a campaign that was published on USA Today, Newsweek and Time. In 93 he was asked to move back to Uruguay to work on the ABSOLUT URUGUAY campaign. That same year Bolioli signed an exclusive agreement with an art publisher. Unfortunately in 94 Absolut dropped the campaign and the art publisher disappeared with all of Bolioli’s work .
With a family to support, Bolioli quit painting and took a job in marketing; he raised his two boys in Uruguay and by 2014 left for Hawai’i once again. While searching for work in Hawaii, his friend Jun Jo told him to stop wasting time and convinced him to get back to painting again by giving him a show at his In4mation location in Chinatown. Since then Bolioli has been showing his work locally and around the world.
His artworks were recently published in Italy as part of the book “I rio, un colore splendido” by Benedetta Tadeiand in France on the book “Surf Artworks” by Jullien Rouland, featuring Eduardo Bolioli as the pioneer of surfboard art with Posca markers.
