Herb Kane Lounge
Artist: Herb Kane
Located across the front desk
This lounge is named after famed artist, historian and author, Herbert "Herb" Kawainui Kane, who was also one of the founding members of the Polynesian Voyaging Society. Herb’s career experience spanned numerous fields including advertising art, publishing art, architectural design, painting, writing and sculpture with a special interest in Hawaii and the South Pacific.
His artwork can be found hanging on the lounge walls and behind the front desk.

Eia Hawaii, he moku, he kanaka
Artist: Marques Marzan
Located in the Herb Kane Lounge
Materials: Coconut and hemp rope
This rope installation titled, "Eia Hawaii, He Moku, He Kanaka", translates to, "Here is Hawaii, an island, a people." It speaks to the interconnectivity of communities across Hawaii, while also recognizing the ancestral ties and enduring relationships to Oceania.

Coming home
Artist: Ethan Estess
Located behind the bell desk
Materials: Discarded fish rope collected off Hawaii's beaches
Artist/marine scientist Ethan Estess partnered with Sustainable Coastlines Hawai’i and the Center for Marine Debris Research to create Coming Home to inspire individuals to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics, choose sustainably-sourced seafood and to promote stewardship of Hawaii's environment.
