Limited Edition Aloha Shirts in Support of Hokulea

Marisa Guerrero

11/30/2015;

We’ve partnered with Kahala Sportswear to launch an exclusive aloha shirt collection honoring Hokulea and the worldwide voyage. It’s a natural fit for us, since, like Outrigger, Kahala has also been a longtime supporter of Hawaii’s culture and community.

The Polynesian Voyaging Society built the now world-famous Hokulea voyaging canoe in 1975. It was meant to be a replica of a double-hulled sailing canoe similar to the canoes that brought Hawaii’s ancestors over from Polynesian in so many years ago. It wasn’t long before Hokulea was taking her first journey; inspiring a revival of canoe building, voyaging, and a common desire by people globally to protect our most cherished values from disappearing.

Forty years later, Hokulea is currently sailing across the entire world to join and grow the global movement toward a more sustainable world. The theme of Hokulea’s current voyage is Malama Honua, which means, “to care for our Earth.” Like the voyage, Outrigger Resorts has a deep-rooted love and respect for land and sea, for local communities and local cultures. And it’s with all of this in mind that we are honored to be ongoing supporters of Hokulea and its crew.

Over the years, we’ve helped the Hokulea crew out in different ways, most recently by putting them up at Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort during their stopover in Mauritius. In addition to providing rooms to the crew, we also helped them coordinate supplies for the next leg of the journey (and there may have been some well-deserved spa treatments squeezed in there, too).

We are always on the hunt for ways to expand our support of Hokulea, and we’re excited to announce one more way that we are helping - and that you can get involved with, too.

We’ve partnered with Kahala Sportswear to launch an exclusive aloha shirt collection honoring Hokulea and the worldwide voyage. It’s a natural fit for us, since, like Outrigger, Kahala has also been a longtime supporter of Hawaii’s culture and community. The collaborative print features the Outrigger logo, as well as images of tools and elements associated with wayfaring.

Not only are these pretty good looking shirts (if we do say so ourselves), but you can feel good about buying them, too. A portion of the proceeds of each shirt sold will go to support Hokulea and its Worldwide Voyage.

This limited-edition collection will include two prints, and the first of the two shirts are actually already available. Help us support Hokulea in their journey! Visit www.kahala.com for more information.
