Important Information Regarding Fiji Government Marriage Requirements
A couple to be married will need an original or certified copy of their respective birth certificates and valid passports. If either person was previously married they will need to present a Decree Nisi or a death certificate of their former spouse. A confirmatory letter on current marriage status needs to be obtained from the Marriage Registry where the applicant resides, or a statutory declaration signed by a Justice of the Peace or Notary Public or Solicitor is required to prove that he/she has not entered into a marriage before (this declaration applies to first or second marriage). Please note that special conditions apply to certain Nationals and details are outlined in a separate Wedding Package document. Couples under 21 years of age are required to produce a consent document signed by a parent.
These guidelines are set by the Fijian Government. We strongly recommend that couples double-check all requirements before traveling, and that travel agents and tour operators also verify requirements for their clients. The Fiji Visitors Bureau should also be used as a point of reference for pre-wedding requirements. Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji is not liable for any incorrect information in relation to proposed marriages in Fiji.
Marriage under Fijian law involves two parts:
The Registration: Couples must register their intent to marry with the Registry Office in the town of Sigatoka, a few minutes drive from Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji. The office is open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The meeting will take around 20 minutes. Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji will arrange an appointment for the completion of the Fijian registry requirements and the marriage service at the resort. The bride and groom will need an original or certified copy of their birth certificates, vaild passports, and if previously married, a copy of divorce papers. Please note that weddings can not be performed on Sundays.
The Ceremony: Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji will arrange a meeting with a minister or marriage celebrant prior to the wedding so you may plan your vows.
