A few weeks ago, we conducted an informal poll on Facebook. We asked, “What’s your favorite Hawaii adventure?” 168 of our fans responded. Many of you could not make up your mind and reeled off a laundry list of your favorite adventures. We ran all those responses through our not-so-very-scientific analysis—called hand tabulating—to give you this report.
What’s clear is that we all have a different definition of adventure.
At one end of the spectrum, Cristal wrote, “Having dinner at Duke’s while the sun sets on Waikiki!! Oh, and KONA coffee in your jammies on the veranda!” Nancy wrote “Watching for the elusive "green flash" from any beach at Sunset on Kona!” Richard wrote, “EATING AT ROY’S.” (By the use of all capital letters, I’m wondering if the adventure was simply getting a table at this popular eatery.)
At the other end, Chelsea wrote, “shark diving.” John wrote, “Sky Diving. OMG what a RUSH…AWESOME….”
Then, there were the—shall we say—quirky ones. Samuelu wrote, “Bus ridin!” Tom wrote, “Magnum P.I.” Trish wrote, “Anywhere Colton is:)”
All in all, ocean and water-related responses garnered 113 responses, land-based adventures received 71 entries and air excursions accounted for just 18.
So, we get it: There are a multitude of water adventures in Hawaii. And why shouldn’t there be? Hawaii is an archipelago, after all, and known as the most remote body of land in the world. (Look at a globe.)
In the coming weeks, we’ll break down your answers in detail. We’ll analyze generalities and specifics. We’ll name names, and we’ll try your adventures on for size. (All except for sky diving. I may scuba dive the backside of Molokini Crater, but I will not sky dive. There was a day a couple decades ago when I might have jumped from a plane, but that day is long past.)
So, stay tuned. And, by all means, continue to share with us your favorite Hawaii adventures by completing the comment form below.
