When I think of hiking, I think of trees and hills and the great outdoors. I think of national parks and wildlife and long drives.
I don't think of concrete stairs, tunnels and hand rails. I don't think of an urban setting.
And, yet, I always descend Diamond Head with a smile on my face. It's not the accomplishment of physical exertion that puts a skip in my step. It's the payoff--like rounding the trail and seeing Yosemite Falls. The view from atop Diamond Head is one of the best in the state, but, it, too, isn't what you'd expect. No waterfalls greet you. No according folds of unending cliffs. No ropey twines of lava. I can describe it for you here, but I'd rather you experience it for yourself. Or, you can watch our newest video here. Spoiler alert: There are views from the summit. But it's still very much worth seeing it for yourself.
Happy trails.
