Sunset with Seals

After a long and busy day at my desk, my feet started to throb come late afternoon. Strange, I know, they should hurt after a big hike--like the one I enjoyed at Kokee State Park over the weekend; more on that in a later post--but the advice of most editors and writing coaches--just sit your butt in your chair and write--isn't always good for the body. Take today. So, when my friend Mary called to ask if I'd check on a young Hawaiian monk seal at a nearby beach, I thought, sure, it'd be good for me. I still had a lengthy to-do list with not enough checked off. The dogs needed walking. Our laying hens needed water. I took care of those things. Then, I headed for the beach at my favorite time of day--an hour or so before sunset, when the ocean quiets down, the sun softens, and the world seems to hum in harmony with absolutely everything and everyone--and I couldn't stop grinning. And when this little guy--T12--awaits you, why would you want to, anyway?
