Photographing Hawaiian monk seals is an all or nothing proposition. They’re either on the beach, grinning for the camera. Or around the rocky point, swimming sight unseen in a secluded cove. On day 34, I found mom and pup on the beach. Pup nursed for a bit, then headed for the water. Unfortunately, a few lava rocks got in her way, but she managed the detour nicely. That said, choosing one image from the hundreds I captured in a couple, short hours was tough.
