The antithesis of a tourist trap, this casual island favorite with fluorescent lighting and wooden tables is all about the food. Try the teriyaki chicken, shrimp tempura, or katsu -- a chicken breast fried with bread crumbs and served with a sweet sauce.
With its black-lacquer tables and lipstick-red banquettes, Kenichi's seems a little out of place in this small strip mall. The location keeps many tourists from finding it, even though it's been open for several years now. This is where everyone in Kailua-Kona goes when they feel like splurging on top-notch sushi.
One of the better additions to Kailua-Kona's restaurant and bar scene, Kona Brewing Company has an excellent and varied menu including pulled-pork quesadillas, gourmet pizzas, and a killer spinach salad with Gorgonzola cheese, macadamia nuts, all topped with strawberry dressing.
At this great annual party, roughly 30 breweries and 25 restaurants offer samples and live music, fire dancers, and fashion shows.
Housed in an open-air facility, this market sells flowers, local produce, Hawaiian crafts, clothes, and random collectibles.
This low-key farmers' market is filled with produce, coffee, and macadamia nuts from around the region.
This is the signature restaurant of Peter Merriman, one of the pioneers of Hawaii regional cuisine. Merriman's is the home of the original wok-charred ahi, usually served with buttery Wainaku corn.
