Guest Blogger Sheila Beal's Five Reasons to Stay in Poipu

Today's guest blogger Sheila Beal started her Hawaii travel blog--Go Visit Hawaii--back in 2006, the early days of travel blogging. That foresight has provided Sheila with an extensive following and many awards. Recently, Sheila partnered with Outrigger Hotels and Resorts to give away a five-night stay at Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation Resort in "Sunny Poipu" on Kauai. The resort is laid out over 35 acres and is built on the grounds of Hawaii's first sugar plantation with the historic home of the plantation's manager now serving as the resort's front office and a well-known restaurant--Plantation Gardens--featuring many locally-sourced ingredients on its menu.

Here, Sheila shares her top five reasons for choosing Poipu as a vacation destination. Hopefully, they'll entice you to enter her sweepstakes. Note: the deadline for entries is December 1, 2013, so don't dilly-dally;-)

Top 5 Reasons to Stay in Poipu

Choosing where to stay on your Kauai vacation can be a daunting task. The good news is that you can’t make a bad choice, but we tend to think Poipu Beach makes a great base for a Kauai vacation for many reasons, as we’ll explain.

1. Stunning beaches.
Kauai’s attraction for many visitors is its natural beauty and Poipu certainly checks the box in the beauty department.  The shoreline is mesmerizing as waves lap against golden sand beaches lined with swaying palm trees. Simply put, it’s paradise.

Poipu Beach Park offers a lifeguarded beach along with a sheltered lagoon making it and ideal place for children to splash and play. The park also has restrooms and picnic facilities.

2. Warm sunshine? Yes, please!
No matter what time of year you visit Poipu, the area offers lovely warm temperatures with daytime highs typically ranging from the mid 70s to upper 80s.

The Poipu resort area is one of Kauai’s sunniest spots. Though there’s a good chance rain won’t hamper your Kauai vacation no matter where you stay, your best bet for sun is in Poipu with its semi-arid tropical microclimate.

3. Excellent restaurants.
Poipu offers an abundance of great restaurants serving delicious Hawaii Regional Cuisine. No matter where you stay in Poipu, you can find a great restaurant within walking distance.

4. Poipu’s convenient location.
During your Kauai vacation, you’ll want to see the island’s top attractions -- waterfalls, Na Pali coast, Waimea Canyon and Kalalau Valley. Of all the major resort areas, Poipu is positioned closest to Waimea Canyon, Kalalau Valley and the port where the major Na Pali coast snorkeling and sunset cruises launch.

5. Many scenic, fun and entertaining things to do and see in Poipu.
Poipu offers several of its own attractions you’ll want to see.
- Spouting Horn, a blow hole, shoots water into the air
- Two National Tropical Botanical Gardens
- Fun watersports including snorkeling, boogie boarding and surfing
- A couple luaus
- Great souvenir shopping
- Koloa Heritage Trail highlights 14 scenic, historical and culturally significant sites.
In summary, there’s so much to love about Poipu. Are there any downsides? I can’t think of a single one! I’d love to return there over and over again.

While we’re on the topic of Poipu, I’d like to mention that Outrigger Hotels and Resorts is kindly sponsoring a five-night stay giveaway at Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation at Poipu Beach.

Ureka! I am sold on going to Poipu. Sounds wonderful to me and I am so lucky I just know I will win the trip. See you soon, Sheila, and thanks for the blog. Sincerely, Grandma, Shary.
