HONOLULU, OAHU, HAWAII - Kimberly Agas, General Manager of the Outrigger Reef on the Beach and Vice President of Operations for Outrigger's Waikiki Beachfront Division, is pleased to announce the appointment of Barbara Gusman to the position of Senior Sales Manager, based at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. Gusman replaces Luana Maitland, who has moved to the newly created position of Events & Activities Manager for the hotel.
Barbara Gusman, Senior Sales Manager
Gusman steps into her new position at the Outrigger Reef with over 30 years of hospitality experience in sales, conventions services, hotel management and food & beverage. For the past nine years, she has been a member of the sales team at the Wailea Marriott Resort on Maui, providing a high level of service and continuity to her clients as the hotel has transitioned over the years from an Aston property, to an Outrigger resort, to its current life as the Wailea Marriott Resort.
Gusman's professionalism and sales expertise are well known among her peers. For the last five years she has been recognized as the top producing sales manager at the Wailea resort, and in 2003, she was selected as the hotel's manager of the year.
A graduate of Maui Community College, Gusman is a member of the Hotel Sales & Marketing Association, the Navy League Association, the Aloha Society of Association Executives and the International Military Community Executive Association.
"It's wonderful to have a sales professional of Barbara's caliber as part of the Outrigger Reef team. Her reputation for quality and superior service are great assets as she takes the lead in selling the Outrigger Reef," Agas said.
Luana Maitland, Events & Activities Manager
Maitland's new role at the Outrigger Reef is Events & Activities Manager. As such, she is responsible for the management of all aspects and functions of the hotel's conference services department as well as all cultural events and guest activities for the hotel, including the Outrigger Reef's popular Aloha Friday activities and free weekly vow renewal ceremony.
"Luana has a true gift of hospitality and her love of the Hawaiian culture enables her to share these gifts with guests and employees alike through the property's many activities, events and banquets," Agas said.
Maitland has over 20 years of experience in hotel management, sales, group sales and customer service. Prior to joining Outrigger, she spent nine years with Colony Hotels and Resorts and eleven years with tour wholesaler Classic Hawaii.
A dedicated professional, Maitland's sense of hospitality and service goes well beyond her daily job. She is actively involved in numerous industry and community organizations, including Travel Women Hawaii, the Hawaii Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association and the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association. Maitland is also a lifetime member and Deacon of Ka Makua Mau Loa Church.
The Outrigger Reef on the Beach is one of only seven hotels that occupy an oceanfront setting on world-famous Waikiki Beach. This comfortable island hotel offers guest rooms equipped with a multitude of amenities, including irons and ironing boards, refrigerators, safes, hairdryers and complimentary in-room coffee. The hotel features three restaurants, two with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean; fifteen lobby specialty shops, from sundries to boutiques; a self-service business center; children's activity program and an on-site day spa. Guests can learn to surf or paddle an outrigger canoe from the shore in front of the hotel, or explore the deep blue waters and reefs of Waikiki on the Outrigger Catamaran. An early morning exercise class featuring the graceful moves of the Hawaiian Hula is held on the beach each day, and couples can fall in love all over again while renewing their vows at the hotel's free beachfront vow renewal ceremony held each Friday morning. Also on Fridays, the hotel celebrates the Hawaiian culture with colorful Aloha Friday events. The Outrigger Reef is truly one of the most inviting hotels on the beach at Waikiki.
