HONOLULU, HAWAII -- Earth Day is everyday at Outrigger Condominium Collection on Maui as it continues its commitment to preserving Hawaii’s natural resources by implementing various environmentally-friendly elements at its six enchanting properties on Maui. From photovoltaic panels to packages promoting eco-initiatives, vacationers to the lush Valley Isle staying at an Outrigger condo will be seeing green -- both in nature and in their wallets.

- Outrigger Palms at Wailea is an upscale Mediterranean-style resort with modern kitchens, large living spaces and private lanais on the opulent southern coast of Maui. The property team is fond of recycling everything it can -from all plastics, magazines and printer cartridges to batteries and light bulbs, keeping mercury out of landfills. They even recycle discarded linens and towels by donating them to a local woman’s shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to reducing maternal mortality in impoverished countries. Used soaps and bathroom amenities are collected for “Clean the World,” keeping an estimated 50 pounds of soap and 38 pounds of bottled amenities out of landfills each month, saving half-a-ton of trash in just one year! Also, the soap donations provide an estimated 55 children the soap they need for a full year. Biodegradable cleaning products are used throughout the property and CFL bulbs light the way wherever possible.

Green amenities include on-site recycling, low-energy lighting and high-efficiency water heating. The low-flow water fixtures and the hang-your towel program saves thousands of gallons of water from being wasted.
- Outrigger Napili Shores is a tropical oasis set on one of the island’s best snorkeling beaches with two popular local restaurants. The property saves thousands of gallons of water by using Xeriscaping landscaping, resulting in a 30 percent reduction in water usage, rain sensors as well as low-flow toilets and shower heads. Photovoltaic solar panels power-up the entire common area, and electric timers and photo-electric cells are found throughout the property. Energy-efficient pool and spa pumps are used for its solar-heated pools. The property has a recycling program and even composites its lawn debris. Outrigger Napili Shores participates in “Clean the World,” sending slightly-used soaps to be sanitized and re-distributed to impoverished people, preventing millions of deaths caused by hygiene-related illnesses.
- Outrigger Aina Nalu is near all the dining, shopping and activities of Lahaina town and is a relaxing retreat, featuring private poolside cabanas and newly remodeled units. The property features a solar hot water and photovoltaic system for common area electricity. Recycling bins are available at the pools for glass, plastic, paper, aluminum and cardboard and any beverage bottles marked for refund can be left with housekeeping.
